If you are concerned that your child or grandchild is an unhealthy weight then MEND is here to help. There are 2 MEND programmes – one for 5-7 year olds and one for 7-13 year olds. The programmes are free and they run in various locations across Norfolk throughout the year. MEND takes a whole family approach to heatlh and lifestyle change so each child must be joined by a parent, grandparent or carer.
At the weekly sessions children will have the chance to enjoy getting active in a safe envioronment without some of the pressures of other situations. Adults can enjoy informative sessions looking at the ‘mind’ aspect of staying healthy answering questions like – how do you know if you child is actually hungry, or is it just a craving? Then there are the sessions where everybody comes together to do activities…You might get to try delicious new recipes or go on a supermarket tour where you get to be a food detective!

If you are pregnant, or have a child under 4 years old, you may be entitled to free vitamins for yourself and your child. These vitamins can help you and your baby stay healthy during pregnancy and in the early years of life.
All you have to do is find out if you are eligible for the scheme, then you can register and begin collecting your vitamins from any of these sites around the Thetford:
Maps for locations across Norfolk are available on NHS Norfolk’s website. To find out if you are eligible, and to register for the Healthy Start Scheme either visit www.healthystart.nhs.uk or call 0845 607 6823 or ask your Health Visitor or Midwife for an application form.
As well as vitamins, by registering for the Healthy Start scheme you may be able to access vouchers to help towards the cost of fruit, vegetables (fresh or frozen) and milk.
